Institute of Brownfield Professionals

I’ve pasted below some introductory information about this organization, as well as a link to their homepage. You should definitely go check it out. Much of the information I’ve posted on my blog relates to the issues surrounding development of environmentally challenged properties, and I don’t often focus on the science/engineering of investigating the levels and types of contamination and further, the actual physical remediation process. That’s not because I’m not interested, but more because I don’t come across that type of information so often. It appears that maybe the Institute of Brownfield Professionals can help fill in that information gap for me.

About the Institute The Institute of Brownfield Professionals (IBP) was created to:

provide a forum for discussion of business, regulatory, and technical issues of common interest;represent members in regulatory matters;provide educational and training media and forums to advance members’ knowledge and capabilities;

certify the apparent capabilities of environmental professionals; and

promote members’ availability to serve those who need the services of environmental professionals.

The IBP is an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization. Staffing is provided by Bachner Communications, Inc. (BCI), a well-known business communication/association management firm that has been meeting the special needs of technical professionals since its founding in 1971.Message from the PresidentWelcome to the Institute of Brownfield Professionals (IBP). The Institute is a not-for-profit organization designed to provide essential services to environmental professionals with expertise in brownfields revitalization, and to assist others with concerns in that area.

The Institute is dedicated to helping its members prosper through professionalism. Toward that end, the IBP is developing programs, services, and materials to help members respond effectively to a changing business climate without compromising their professional integrity or the quality of their technical services. I am delighted to serve as the Institute’s president this year.

Although the Institute is a young organization, we are able to provide a wide array of programs and materials to our members because of the generosity of ASFE/The Best People on Earth. ASFE is a not-for-profit “business league” supported by geoprofessional, environmental, and civil engineering firms. Many of the Institute’s “charter members” are affiliated with ASFE member firms. Although some of these firms are among the largest of their kind worldwide, most are relatively small, underscoring the fact that the services that ASFE provides help firms by helping the individuals who comprise them. For that reason, much of what ASFE offers fits perfectly with the needs of IBP members and the organizations with which they are associated.

Sincerely,

W. Jerrold Samford, P.G. , P.G. President
