Job opportunities with the National Brownfield Associations

March 28th, 2008 by Andy Knoch

Note: Please visit the National Brownfield Associations at www.brownfieldassociation.org

Planning for future growth, the NBA is in search of candidates who would make good chapter coordinators. We are seeking individuals interested in building or furthering their career in the brownfield industry. Candidates must have a positive can do attitude, be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, have managed projects and people, and possess technical expertise in one or more brownfield areas (finance, incentives, government programs, policy & legislation, law, development, real estate, etc.). As the only association dedicated to working on brownfield issues on a consistent basis, the NBA provides an excellent opportunity for those who are passionate about brownfield redevelopment and want to be part of the brownfield solution.

Responsibilities will include the management of chapter Executive Committees and event program subcommittees, the promotion of membership, identification of sponsors, collection and dissemination of information, chapter Web page updates, and customer service to chapter members.

If you know of someone who has these skills and is interested in working in our Chicago office, please have them contact Mary Hereford at maryh@brownfieldassociation.org.

Northeast Midwest Institute - Organization

Northeast Midwest Institute

Overview of the Brownfields Program

History and Overview

The Northeast-Midwest Institute has been at the forefront of brownfield policy development and information dissemination since the early 1990s, when the Institute organized the first brownfields conference in Chicago in 1991 and published the landmark New Life For Old Buildings. This report was the first to analyze the legal, regulatory, and financial barriers to cleaning up and reusing old industrial sites. Intense regional and national interest in the implications of brownfields for urban redevelopment and environmental cleanup led the Institute to launch an ongoing research program to identify the impacts of federal and state policies and programs on community revitalization efforts and suggest opportunities for improvement.

Institute of Brownfield Professionals

June 30th, 2007 by Andy Knoch

I’ve pasted below some introductory information about this organization, as well as a link to their homepage. You should definitely go check it out. Much of the information I’ve posted on my blog relates to the issues surrounding development of environmentally challenged properties, and I don’t often focus on the science/engineering of investigating the levels and types of contamination and further, the actual physical remediation process. That’s not because I’m not interested, but more because I don’t come across that type of information so often. It appears that maybe the Institute of Brownfield Professionals can help fill in that information gap for me.
